San Miniato is an ancient and important city that had Etruscan and then Roman settlements based along "Via Francigena". From its dominant position, the German Emperors had been exercising power and control over the whole of Tuscany... here took residence Federico Barbarossa. San Miniato is very rich in history: walking along the main street, you can see important buildings and you can admire some tower-houses (the one of Matilda is now known as the bell tower), the numerous churches as St.Jacopo, St.Francesco and the Cathedral with an unforgettable view over the valley of the Arno. HOW TO GET TO SAN MINIATO
You can easily reach San Miniato by car from the A1 (Milano-Napoli), exit Firenze Scandicci, then take the freeway (SGC) with Pisa-Livorno direction, San Miniato exit.
By train: San Miniato railway station is on the rail between Florence and Pisa.
By plane: Florence Airport and Pisa Airport are both 45km far.
By boat: Livorno harbour is 50 km far.
